Local Support

Local decision making by the communities of Logan Lake area comes with significant responsibility to support sustainable resource management that respects the land and reflects the values of local communities. Local control over the area also provides opportunities to enhance our relationship with the local communities and invest in recreation, educational opportunities and environmental stewardship. We continue to build relationships with Indigenous communities whose territory overlaps with the community forest, as we work out what meaningful reconciliation looks like on the land.

We implement sustainable forest stewardship practices on the land and work to mitigate any negative impacts of our activities to resource values including wildlife, biodiversity, soils and water. By managing the harvest of timber in the Logan Lake area, we make sure it’s completed responsibly and that proper reforestation practices occur.  Although the Logan Lake Community Forest does ensure alignment with all applicable government legislation, regulations, and policies in managing our tenure area, we also strive to innovate and improve our planning and practices to ensure a longer term and more proactive approach to forestland management.

A key role of the Logan Lake Community Forest is supporting wildfire risk management and overall community wildfire resilience, which provides significant benefit for the community. In addition, the profits from the Logan Lake Community Forest are re-invested in the land and re-distributed back into the community of Logan Lake and surrounding communities. The wood supply in our area also sustains, expands, and diversifies local forest and land related opportunities supporting the local economy in a multi-faceted way.
